New audiovisual tool:

La Voz Del Eco

Aware of the importance of every story and the transformative power of sharing experiences, UOMI Cancer Center has launched a pioneering initiative: La Voz Del Eco.

We know that a cancer diagnosis leaves emotional scars, which is why this new tool seeks to provide a space where each person can share their unique and valuable story, inspiring other patients or family members on their own journey.

The creation of this audiovisual library of testimonials comes from recognizing the therapeutic impact of the act of verbalizing experiences. Various studies support this idea, emphasizing that sharing experiences not only helps process the experience but also provides a sense of purpose.

Dr. Santiago Viteri, from the medical team of UOMI Cancer Center, highlights: “We want our patients to know that their stories matter, and that by sharing them, they are not only helping themselves but also becoming an essential support for new patients, family members, and even for us.” The Voice of Echo thus becomes a valuable resource for patients in treatment as well as those beginning their journey against cancer.

A sentiment shared by psycho-oncologist Ainhoa Videgain: “Through their stories, patients bring us closer to their experiences and perspectives, helping us identify their needs, to know their values and goals at each moment of their process, to discover who they are, not just as patients, but also as people, beyond the disease they suffer from.”

In this sense, Videgain notes that this approach “shortens the distance between the knowledge about the disease and the understanding of their experiences, increasing the likelihood that our responses, not only clinical decisions but also the treatment, are personalized and genuine, consistent with the personal needs of all of them.”

In this way, this new project places the patient at the center of the process and allows their opinions, needs, and expectations to become an integral part of their medical care, reaffirming UOMI Cancer Center’s commitment to a people-centered approach.
