Our Team
Dr. Santiago Viteri
I am a medical oncologist with a degree in Medicine from the University of Navarra, where I also obtained my specialist degree. During my studies I learned to constantly seek new options and treatments for patients and developed an empathic and compassionate style of care. My first position as a specialist was at the Mateu Orfila Hospital in Menorca, where for a year I provided care to patients with all kinds of tumor, working with certain constraints that forced me to make the most of the limited resources available to me. At this time I learned that one of the most important tasks of the oncologist is to communicate with patients in the right way, using understandable information and a friendly approach to talk about the diagnosis and prognosis of their disease. For thirteen years I worked at the Dr. Rosell Oncology Institute where I specialized in cancer molecular biology, personalized medicine, thoracic tumors and clinical research. I started as a staff physician but progressively took on management responsibilities for the medical team and became Clinical Director, taking charge of a team of 14 oncologists attending patients in four hospitals in the Barcelona area. I have also carried out teaching activities, training specialists from Latin America and Europe, and spoken at national and international meetings and conferences. In August 2021, together with an outstanding team of professionals, I founded Mi Cancer Center SLP, an independent project dedicated to comprehensive, global and personal cancer care for patients and their families. We will soon join forces with #ClinicasMI to create #UOMI Cancer Center, an innovative cancer center in Barcelona and Lleida.
Dr. Marta Suárez
I am a medical oncologist with a degree in Medicine from the University of Zaragoza (1997). I completed my residency training program in Medical Oncology and obtained my specialist qualification at the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona. I then worked for two years as a staff physician in the Breast and Gynecological Tumor unit. During this period, new therapies were applied to breast cancer and advances were made in the field of precision oncology. I experienced the transition to a new model of oncology and learned to take a comprehensive approach to patient care, encompassing psychological, social and nutritional needs and other accompanying pathologies, with attention to detail. Subsequently, I worked for two years at the Institut Dexeus and the Hospital de Barcelona, treating patients with various pathologies, primarily breast and gynecological tumors. For the next thirteen years, I worked at the Teknon Medical Center, where I was part of the breast and gynecological pathology committee. I also consulted for two years at the IMQ Zorrotzaurre Clinic in Bilbao. As a staff physician I was responsible for outpatient and inpatient care, accompanying patients at different stages of their illness. In my final year at Teknon Medical Center I took on the role of Director of Patient Care, contributing to the day-to-day management of the IOT. In August 2021, we created the UOMI Cancer Center, where I combine my activity as an oncologist in breast and gynecological pathology with overall responsibility for care management.
